The Winter Olympics are soon approaching which reminds me of an
amazing story of the USA hockey team back in 1980. They were faced with
defeating the favored and extremely talented Soviet Union team. The USA team
stunned the Soviet Union team with a 4-3 win. Check out this youtube video. It
is only about 8 seconds long.
Al Michaels was on the call and he asked a question that I think
we need to ask ourselves, “do you believe in miracles?”. Now, I don’t think Al
Michaels was talking about our Christian life but it is a really good question.
As we continue through the New Testament together, we see miracle after
miracle. As a matter of fact, today’s reading deals with Jesus healing the deaf
man, the blind man, and feeding the four thousand My question to you today is
do you believe that God still does miracles?
“Jesus Christ is the same
yesterday and today and forever”. (English Standard Version, Hebrews 13:8)
In a society where it seems as if technology
is the answer for so much it is easy to forget that our God still does
miracles! As a matter of fact, our everyday life is full of different miracles.
Some we see and some we do not. Every breath is a miracle. Our God does not
work within the borders of “possibility”. God has no borders. He can do
whatever he wants. He can heal the sick, bring life to the lifeless, restore a
broken marriage, heal a broken heart. Our job is to trust God, trust that He
will take care of us. That doesn’t mean that we will always get the miracle
that we are hoping for but part of trusting God is believing that He is working
for your good! Whether we can see the good in something or not, His ways are
always perfect.
And we know that for those who love God all
things work together for
good, for those who are called according to his purpose. (English
Standard Version, Romans 8:28)
God is still working, still moving, and yes,
still doing miracles. I hope that when asked the question that Al Michael’s
asked of everyone watching, you will answer as he did…and say “YES”!
