Psalm 104

One of the amazing things about growing up as a missionary’s kid in Bolivia was seeing God’s amazing creation. I remember driving through the rugged Andes mountains and then seeing what looked like a green carpet of jungle trees at the bottom. I remember looking out the window of a small Cessna plane to see snowcapped mountains peeking through the clouds. I remember canoeing down the jungle rivers, staring at depth of the jungle watching the river twist and turn.

My grandparents were missionaries to a tribe in the Andes Mountains. It took about four hours by car to get to where they lived. The drive was spectacular. It was breath-taking however, as a kid, I didn’t always take time to notice. It wasn’t until I left Bolivia and then went back that I truly appreciated the bigger picture.

One memory that I have is driving through the mountains with my grandparents who lived in the USA. They had come down to Bolivia to visit and we were on some type of trip. I can’t remember where we were headed but, at one point, my they asked to stop. They walked to edge of the road (beside the cliff) and began to sing the words, “Then sing my soul, My Savior God to Thee, How Great Thou Art.” I remember they stood there, by themselves singing to the creator, in wonder and amazement of His creation.

Take some time today, to reflect on God’s creation. Praise Him for His wonderful works! It truly is amazing when you stop and reflect on creation, how much more we appreciate it.

Psalm 104:1 says,
Bless the Lord, O my soul!
O Lord my God, you are very great!

Psalm 134

Psalm 134 Come, bless the  Lord , all you servants of the  Lord ,     who stand by night in the house of the Lord! Lift up your hands to the holy place     and bless the Lord! May the  Lord  bless you from Zion,     he who made heaven and earth!   What do we do when uncertainty and difficultly surround us? Lift your hands and bless the Lord! What do you have to be thankful for today? Such a simple, yet complex thought. We have so much to be thankful for, even when times are difficult. What are you thankful for? Leave a comment to encourage others below and list what you are thankful for.   I am thankful for… Let us know!

2 Thessalonians 1-3

There are a lot of significant thoughts about the return of the Lord Jesus in 2 Thessalonians, but there is something else of great importance that we can be doing right now. We can be praying for missionaries.    We talk a lot about the need for praying for missionaries.  We also need to talk a lot about how we should be praying for them.  Here is an acronym, taken from Scripture, that may be of some help. The acronym spells PEWBOARD.  It reminds us that although it may seem insignificant to us that all we are doing is sitting on a pew, we can be a vital part of missionary work.  We can pray.   There are a lot of missionary agencies, boards, and sending societies, on which we will never serve, but just because we are on the “pewboard” doesn’t mean we are ineffective in supporting those on the front lines.   All throughout the epistles we read of personal prayer requests from that great missionary – the Apostle Paul.  His specific prayer concerns can be a pattern to help us to

Colossians 1-2

Colossians 2 speaks of being rooted in Christ. How is that possible to be rooted in Christ? It is possible through growing in your relationship with Him, that comes with time. How long does it take for a tree’s roots to grow deep? It takes a while, it does not happen overnight. We grow in that relationship through the study of the Word, fellowship with believers, prayer and other spiritual disciplines. We grow in that relationship as we go through this life and turn to Him again and again. Reading through this chapter reminded me of this older song by Phillips, Craig and Dean. Chapter 2 speaks of being alive in Christ. We are alive in Christ! https://www.youtube.com/watch? v=_0_1jazh454 Actually, this week's Bible study touches on some of these same themes.
