Today I have the privilege of writing a reflection on one of my all-time favorite psalms. It is short, sweet, and to the point! Psalm 100 is one of the shortest of all the Psalms, yet it conveys so much in these five verses:
Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
(Psalm 100, ESV)
V1 & V2 – Reading the first two verses, I have to ask
myself if I am serving Him joyfully, or do I sometimes serve out of a sense of
duty or not wanting to let others down?
We are to joyfully serve the Lord, delighting in His
presence. Not just us, but “all the earth.”
V3 – We are to recognize that God is our Creator and we
belong to Him. He is referred to as our shepherd. To me this is a beautiful reminder
of how he constantly watches over and cares for us, even when we stray. He always
knows what is best for us.
V4 – We are to be thankful and full of praise as we “enter
his gates.” He alone is worthy of our worship!
V5 – The Lord is good. His love for us never wavers nor
ends. He is always faithful. Upon reading the last verse, I am reminded of how the
Lord has proven faithful in my life, time and time again. He indeed is worthy
of our praise!
